My eldest, when he was granted computer time, told me he was going online to create a Diamante poem. I had no idea what he was talking about but he explained to me that it’s a poem in the shape of a diamond and google searched until he found the website where you can create your own.
I joined him in his search and was really intrigued. Yes, it is a poem in the shape of a diamond but there’s more to it. It focuses on synonyms or antonyms and the poem generator helps young poem writers through the process by specifying what type of word should come next (ie. an adjective).
Together we created some poetry!
Here’s mine:
He learned about this website at school. It’s a really neat resource. You should try it with your kids and see what everyone comes up with.
Another fun way to use it – everyone use the same starting and ending words and see how different or similar each poem is.
Happy writing!
I love this idea! Thank you for sharing a great website. Poetry is something I’ve read to my kids but this will help them have a go at it too. 🙂
