They fight. They bicker. They defend. They laugh together. They cry together. They hug. They love.
My kids have started a new tradition. I have a box of popsicles at the ready for hot days, and we’ve had a few this month. After school, they ask to have one and I say yes. I then send them outside (because, eating food outside is way easier for clean up.)
They started a new tradition. They would both take a chair on the deck, swivel them to face each other, their feet would nearly touch and while they ate the popsicle, they would chat. If one wasn’t ready to go outside yet, the other would wait, until they were both set, and able to take their seats.
I tried not to listen in, but some days, with patio door open, I couldn’t help but hear them. They would make up a silly question game about Toopy and Binou, or chat about things going on at school. The moments only last as long as the popsicle, but the fact that they have these moments mean the world to me. I hope they remember their popsicle chats.
