I had this post sitting in drafts since last week. My intention going into the holidays was to write a few posts about activities that we are doing, or plans that we’ve made. Instead, I ended up doing the absolute minimum amount of work required over the break. I focused on client deadlines and needs, and spent a ridiculous (and welcome) amount of time on a couch reading a couple books that I got for Christmas.
Needless to say, this was a pretty lovely break.
What was different this year was that our school ended later, just before Christmas, which gave us an entire week at home together (Andy took it off with us) even after our annual visit to Windsor to visit Andy’s family for the holidays. Normally we only have a couple days (and we leave on the 27th to travel there) but this year we had so much more time to read, play with our new gifts, relax, see a movie and just relax. It was perfect.
Now, I look ahead to the first week back. I welcome the routine (and boy, do we need it. Bedtime is only just getting back to normal, but my new sleeping in habit is going to be a hard one to break!) However, I’ll miss the nature of the holiday – where we just focused on being together, free time and having fun.
The winter is already shaping up to be a good one. Work projects are starting to come in, the kids are really enjoying their school year so they’ll head back with some happiness, and we have an AMAZING March Break holiday planned that we are counting down to.
This was a really nice holiday, but routines are calling us. We’ll have to meet them head on with enthusiasm. Why not? It’s a new year, time to dig in.
How were your holidays? Any favourite moments?
