Our house is a good size I think. There are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, and we have an open concept main floor which gives a comfortable space to live in. After redoing our kitchen, the house really has almost everything I could want. While I may never have a room just for an office, we’ve managed to make it work. Same with the area to keep the kids school stuff organized so that we don’t trip all over bookbags and homework sheets all the time. We also added shelves to our living room which helped with storage.
Our most recent update and need was in our dining room (which is open to the living room and kitchen). We got a new computer, an All-in-one, that is the family computer, and also have a record player on the main floor. We don’t have a TV on the main floor, so music is the source of entertainment. But we needed a spot for those items. We didn’t want to put the computer in the basement because the kids use it, but we were running out of space, period.
Our solution came from a console table from IKEA. It can hold the record player, records, my recipe books, and the new computer (which now can also stream baseball games). We were able to open up the space in the dining area but still have access to what we need. If we are doing work for long periods of time on the computer, we can move the screen to the table.
It’s a solution that I am very happy with!
