Okay fine. I know exactly where it went. We had a lovely summer that included a lot of travelling to our favourite summer spots (which did have some stress points as we tried to remain covid-safe) like southern Ontario, Niagara and PEI.
All of that travel mostly focused on food, family and fun. This year, we spent 3 weeks in PEI to make up for lost time from the past couple summers that we couldn’t go and honestly, I wasn’t really ready to come home by the end. It was three weeks of relaxation, playing, health and amazing sleep for all of us.
We needed it.
Now, back at home, we have been closing out the summer with a major home project: Updating our basement with new paint and flooring (turning it from a child’s play room and family tv area, to a teen play room and family tv area!) with plans to also paint the main floor.
After being home as often as we were over the past couple of years, and with teens who are getting older, it’s time for a space refresh. The fun thing is that it’s been a family activity to talk about and plan choices, paint colours, room colours and shop for furniture.
The truth is, as always, I’m not ready for the summer to come to an end. It’s been a wonderful summer together and while the routine of school will do all of us some good, the time we have spent will be missed.
As always, we look to the Fall changes with some refreshing optimism and plans to maintain the feelings we have from the summer (and healthy activities and sleep hopefully) even as the weather turns.
At least now when it gets colder outside we will have an even cozier space in our home to hang out!
How has your summer been?
