We love letters around here. Let’s face it, they are everywhere, so teaching my son the alphabet was actually a pretty easy task. However, any new activity we can find involving letters is still popular with him!
Alphabetsaurus can combine 4 different learning functions if you want, depending on the age/interest of your child:
-teaching the alphabet
-teaching colours
-teaching shapes
-teaching pattern
To make Alphabetsaurus, all you need is a piece of bristol board and some different colours of construction paper and some glue.
1. Draw the outline of a dinosaur, include a tail.
2. Using construction paper, cut out triangles, circles and squares (use a different colour for each shape)
3. On alternating shapes, write the alphabet (ex. letter A on a square, letter B on a triangle, letter C on a circle, D on a square etc.)
4. Layout the letters randomly on the floor. Depending on your child, have them find the A, then the B. To help them, you can tell them what shape or colour the letter they are looking for is on.
5. As your child finds the letter, have them glue it on the dino outline, creating the ‘spikes’ of the dino.
In our Alphabetsaurus pictured above, the random red squares are there for no reason. We had extra, my son wanted to glue them on.
Dino Reading!
Any dino activity wouldn’t be complete if we didn’t read one (or many!) of the books from the ‘How do Dinosaurs…” series. If you haven’t already, check them out. Here are some of our favs:
Cute! I love fun, inexpensive activities using stuff we already have around the house.
