In the past week, my son has played the following games with non-toy items, found around the house or outside:
-Basketball with a rolled up pair of (clean) socks and the baby’s bassinet
-Catch with a walnut
-Catch with a stuffed animal
-Coloured a cardboard box that something I ordered online was shipped in
-Drums using a stick and lawn chair outside
-Created bath toys (while at a hotel on vacation) by playing with a yogurt container and a wine cork in the tub. The wine cork also doubled as a ball to play catch.
These are the reasons I don’t often buy toys, other than puzzles or books!
As you can tell, he is pretty easy to amuse and has a pretty wonderful imagination. But if not offered plastic toys or video games, wouldn’t most kids come up with original, imaginative games? I hope so.
