I love finding special and unique gifts for people. For my kids, my family, friends – when they combine my love for gift giving with a local story, I am even more pleased.
Last year when Julianna Banana offered for me to try one of their culinary gift boxes (around Valentine’s Day), I thought it would be great to check out.
My daughter loves learning to bake in the kitchen, and the kit comes with hands-on activities the kids can do with parents, alone, and even a virtual cooking class to participate in. There are kitchen items (from a local Ottawa kitchen store), note cards with recipes and detailed instructions that make it easy for eager chefs at all skill levels to participate. The lasagna recipe from that box is still one we use!
Gift Box or Subscription Box for Kids in Ottawa
Now, Julianna Banana has a special Holiday Culinary Box for purchase and easy gift giving. It costs $55 and comes with a science activity, make-your-own ornaments, a ‘gift giving’ activity to encourage the act of giving and sharing, recipes, and tools for in the kitchen like a cookie cutter and measuring cups.
The gift box would be perfect for younger kids looking to experience the kitchen with the help of a parent or loved one, or older kids as a way to connect together and make memories.
A subscription to the box year round is also available.
Aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends of the family who may live out of town, or who always find it hard to shop for your child (or maybe needs a little nudge to direct them to a gift you know your kids will use) will love being able to give a gift that will not only enjoy a lot of use, but is also experiential and keeps on giving!
Join the classes!
If you aren’t ready for a box, your mini chef may want to try one of the many cooking classes for kids aged 5-14 offered virtually (some classes may be offered in person too)! Learn how to make macarons, ravioli, Christmas cookies and more.
What’s in the Holiday Box?
In the holiday box you’ll discover recipes for festive pancakes, homemade pasta, holiday cookies and more! Plus, there is a gifting portion, a science activity and the chance to join a live virtual class (or view the recording). You’ll want to read the entire list of items on their website!
Are there other gift options?
In addition to the culinary box, if you are looking for a smaller, single-activity gift, you can now choose from one of their new DIY packages! Make lip balm, ornaments and more (these packages from from $15-20!).
Deadlines
The Holiday Culinary Box is only available until December 18th with pick up in Westboro. Visit the website to place your order!
What I love about the culinary boxes is that there is a combination of experience, learning, and fun with special gift items all in one set. These are such a great gift because children and caregivers can create together!
My daughter and I are excited to dig into the holiday box during the school break!

Thank you Julianna Banana for providing me with a box!
