I was more than thrilled when my brother offered to make the pies for Thanksgiving dinner that I hosted. While my husband also bakes pies, we just didn’t have the time with entertaining, planning, visiting (my parents were out of town) etc.
He made 2 pumpkin pies (I insist on having pumpkin each year at the very least!) which were delicious, and for the third, he did a plum pie. I had never had one before and was anxious to try it. (You know the show Pushing Daisies? Awesome show right? I was really mad they cancelled it. Anyway, this pie is a variation from a recipe he got from the pie recipe book that came with the DVDs of the show he bought. Cool right? Still with me? 😉
He was kind enough to give me his recipe (I don’t make pie but wanted to share it with you). I was thrilled with how delicious it was! And do you see the picture below? See that little sliver of a piece? Who leaves a sliver like that! (note, cut the other side in half and that’s about the average size I have 😉 Enjoy!
Ingredients:
-Approx 5 cups of sliced plums
(recommendation:Use red plums (tart) and black plums (sweet) for sure, add other varieties for different flavours and levels of sweet/sour
-About 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar
-1 teaspoon nutmeg
-1 teaspoon or more cinnamon
-1/4 cup of tapioca to thicken
Directions:
1-Pit the plums, but don’t peel them. Slice them into a bowl.
2-Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and tapioca into plums.
3-Fill pie shell, put the other crust on top, do all that magic.(Momsense note: That ‘magic’ term is my brother’s, love it. Also, for baking directions he writes:
4-For baking he suggests your usual temp/time (probably comparable to an apple pie). He wasn’t sure but thought he did his at 375 for 45 minutes.
