I love watching my kids play. When they play together and make up characters that each of them will be it’s a lot of fun. When they play alone and pretend to be weaving a story with their toys, I am filled with excitement at the thought of what they might think of next.
My daughter has a particular talent for pretending with any inanimate object. A potato can be a princess. A pencil can be a wand. A wii nunchuk remote can be a puppy.
My son has a keen sense for story telling. I’ve written before about his escapades and scenes that he sets up in the house. He doesn’t just say ‘this is a spy’. He says ‘this is a spy. His name is agent X and he is part of a group of….’ you get the idea.
As part of my partnership with Fisher Price, I am sent some cool toys for the kids to try from time to time.
Needless to say when the Bat Cave arrived we were all beyond excited. This has provided many hours of battles and chases and scenes in which Batman and Robin have to save the day.
We were also sent Imaginext Dinosaurs – we have the Pterodactyl and the Triceratops. These guys get into a lot of trouble let me tell you 😉 Sometimes they are good guys. Other times they are the bad guys. I think even Batman has had to battle them.
Each of the dinosaurs came with a guy. What’s awesome is that my son has given them names. Meet Marine Hanson (on the right) and Jack Spirit (I am SO copyrighting these names – stay tuned for his tales of Jack Spirit in about 20 years 😉
The toys didn’t give names for the characters or instructions on how they should be used (but each came with some pretty cool gear that shoots things around, so that’s fun!)
Imagination happens everyday – and I love it.
What are some of the toys that spark the most imagination in your house? Are they even toys?
Disclosure: I am part of the Fisher-Price Play Panel and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group (see – Batcave!). The opinions on this blog, as always, are my own.
“Imaginations happen every day.” Love that so much.
