I’m still working on my New Year’s post. My words to guide me. My goals and plans. I like setting them this time of year. I recognize that they are fluid but I’m still goal oriented in many ways. Even if it means reminding myself that wayyyy back in January I had a great idea for a hobby or course to take, it’s important for me to remember some of these ideas – and hopefully see some through.
Meanwhile, as I’m finalizing that post (plus getting back into this whole blogging thing since I really did take these holidays seriously), I’ve realized that many of you are picking your words as well.
And one word kept coming up in my head over and over again that I need to remind myself of. Once I realized that it’s a word that I know many of you should be using too, then this post was formed. The word? Kindness.
We often talk about the importance of kindness – kindness to strangers, helping each other, kindness on the internet – it’s a word everyone talks about and hopefully many people action.
But the one area that many of us are really not very good at: being kind to ourselves.
We support our friends, we tell them they can do it, that they are good enough. We tell our family it will be okay, that we will help them in any way they need to. We tell our friends online ‘congratulations!’ and ‘you’re awesome!’ with ease.
But when was the last time you’ve said that to yourself?
So if you are still looking for the word to guide you next year, consider selecting kindness – but use it for yourself as much as you do for others.
🙂 I’m still working on my words (and possibly even blogging about it) as well, and I LOVE this idea of adding Kindness to my list. THANK you!
Great advice and reminder. I tell myself I will do this for myself starting the beginning of each new year, but it always seems to fall by the wayside. This may just be the year 🙂
