It’s been over a year since I starting blogging and most of my posts are without categories or tags. Stop yelling at me!! I know, I know. It has to be done, and I plan to do it.
I HAVE to do it, because categorizing my posts as Recipe or Preschool Activity or Ottawa Event is as beneficial to me as it is to my readers. I will do it this summer (oooh the to-do list keeps growing).
When I started blogging, I read bits about SEO – Search Engine Optimization. People tweeted about it, articles were written about it and ‘big’ bloggers were apparently masters at ensuring people found your blog. For example, tags serve to drive traffic from Google searches. Or the title of your blog post – certain words will attract search engines.
I write my titles because I think of something clever that makes myself and no one else laugh or because it sounds fun or because it makes the most sense when Tweeting. Apparently, that doesn’t do well for SEO!
Do you follow SEO recommendations? I am looking forward to attending future conferences etc. to learn about the actual business of blogging. While I think it’s fun and is my ‘work’, there are things I could do better from that perspective.
Now, if only the SEO experts could tell me how to better balance my time too. Is there an app for that?
I have definitely gotten better at trying to make my post titles search engine friendly. Some of my earlier ones just make no sense at all!
my blog is about 2 1/2 years old now and I only started tagging about 9 mo ago. I’m discovering now that going back and tagging some of those older posts would really help me whenI am trying find something I KNOW I posted about.
Like you, I use title that make me laugh at the time…but looking back they don’t really tell me what the post is about :p
So we shall suck at SEO totgether 🙂
SEO is something I seriously need to work on. But first, I probably should understand it better. Hoping that I can learn quickly! 😉
