There’s no going back now. We are finishing up the second week at school and finally, just now, finding a groove. There is hope for bedtime, hope for the morning routine and hope for the post-school hungry grumpies that seem to always happen. Finally, heading into the third week, I think we’re finding a way to make it work.
Now, I haven’t added swimming lessons and after school clubs and meetings and travelling to the mix yet, so we’ll see what happens then, but for now, I feel like we are going to be okay.
The first week, as it always tends to be, was difficult. We were all in shock. We were over tired, confused and lamenting the end of the summer. It’s a hard transition each year. Please remind me next year that I say this every year? Week one is hard.
As for school itself, the kids really seem to like it. They both have wonderful classes and teachers and getting them to go hasn’t been an issue. This bodes well. We even had our first week of homework completed without a fight. WITHOUT A FIGHT PEOPLE! How many more weeks to go?
I’m finding my days, now spent alone with both kids in full time classes, are flying by. I haven’t discovered the best way to be efficient yet, but it’s coming. I’m able to do some chores, cook, run errands, visit friends and write/work in those 6.5 hours. It’s working out well for me so far.
Time will tell what happens next, but all of us do well with a little routine. The bigger transition is ensuring that we are spending the time we do have together enjoying it and making the most of it. So far, so good.
How has your Back To School transition been? Better or worse than last year?
I also felt like I’d been slammed the first week, and I couldn’t really figure out why, since I was now getting all this “time to myself.” But I think, as you say, it was just hard to find a groove, and everyone was over tired, and I tried to do too much too quickly.
We’re settling in now though – I’ll remind you about this next year if you’ll remind me!
So far, so good. We are taking things in stride.
A bit of routine is good. Tomorrow is the beginning of the 2nd full week for my Thing 1 and Thing 2.
We are really just trying to remain calm. 🙂
Like you, we haven’t added any extracurricular activities, yet. I always feel like I should, but I also know that easing in works best for my family.
We’ll get to ALL the things in time. 😉
