The eldest has discovered the joys of Calvin and Hobbes. Did you read them as a kid? I did, and loved them. Garfield was my all time favourite for a very long time. Then there was Calvin and Hobbes and eventually nothing could beat The Far Side.
Turns out, Andy had the same appreciation for this kind of humour (it’s one thing that has always drawn us to each other!) and had a box of Calvin and Hobbes books. I think he has the entire collection.
Our 8 year old recently started reading them, and loving them. It’s hilarious to hear silence and then suddenly giggles. I love it when he shows us what’s so funny, and often Andy remembers the entire scene and we all laugh.
When moments from my own childhood creep into there’s, I find a sense of happiness. Memories that I hold dear suddenly are becoming their own, and it’s hard not to wonder if some day he’ll be laughing again with his own children.
And, let’s be honest, these books are darn funny.
Are your kids reading books that you once did? Does it bring back fond memories?
