When we went to Turks and Caicos, our daughter really took to the water. The kids have been in lessons for years, but daily swimming we were doing seemed to encourage her to burst from regular swim mode to mermaid mode.
Without floaties, she would swim with her head under the water (and us in close proximity) with ease. It was something to watch.
Then were were times when she would insist we not hold onto her and she would tread. ย Her little head was just above the top of the water and while she treaded she spun in a circle and kept saying ‘I’m treading! I’m treading! I’m treading!”
We weren’t sure if her repeating the words helped focus her, or if she just wanted to reassure us that she was fine, but it was quite the site.
This June, I feel like my head is bobbing just above the water and I keep repeating “I’m treading!”
We’re all busy. I hate the term because few of us can say we aren’t busy in some capacity. But every year, June reminds me just how hectic life gets. Work deadlines, school field trips, school events, work events, family functions – they are all adding up and we are all feeling the pressure.
On one hand, it feels like we are sprinting to the finish. That magically as of June 26 (or whatever that last school day is), there will be relief. At the same time, I am limping to that finish, stumbling along the way, telling myself that I will get there soon.
It’s June. It will pass. The summer is full of fun, travel, time together and planning and I am ready to welcome it with both arms.
In the meantime, I’m treading.
Empathy. I haz it.
We have 5 more days. Followed by 4 days off. Then my Things go to pick up their certificates on Grading Day.
The month just keeps getting longer, somehow.
Let’s take a few deep breaths and just rest assured in the fact that it will end and summer will be here and we can go out and play more!
Word to this. June is always so crazy, and we always seem to totally overbook ourselves. This Saturday afternoon alone we have four separate “must do” events happening at once, which is leading to a complex system of cars and car switching and begging other adults to take our children places, and GAH. Looking forward to July!
The month of June was so wild. I’m happy to be out of that routine. At least for a little bit ๐
