Last year around this time, I found an idea somewhere online (as I often do) to use tape to outline on a canvas and then paint them. When the tape is removed, the snowflake image remained.
I loved it! And the kids had so much fun. All we needed were canvases, some paint (we used acrylic), washi tape, paint brushes and sponges. We had blue, white, silver and gold paint so we were able to get a really nice winter feel to the canvas.
The kids outlined their snowflakes with the washi tape, then began to paint, dab and brush different colours all over the canvas. We allowed them to dry before removing the paint.
The canvases proudly hung in my front foyer and are packed away still, ready to be pulled out when I decorate next week.
This was a really easy, fun craft to do with the kids. Mine were old enough that they needed little guidance, but younger kids could easily do this as well with some support and assistance.
If using acrylic paint on the canvas like we did, be sure to put down plenty of newspaper to protect your floor or table and have the kids wear clothes that you are ok with getting paint on it – just in case!
