Having children may be a lot of work, but it also gives us adults a reason to enjoy some really fantastic kid fun that we possibly hadn’t in some time.
These moments of pure joy, silliness and happiness are gifts from our children I think. Sometimes we have to stop and realize they are happening at the moment and just enjoy them.
Here are a few things that are ‘kiddy’ but that I have a lot of fun rediscovering as a parent.
- Saturday morning cartoons (Phineas and Ferb! Woot Woot!)
- Jokes about bodily functions (haha, potty humour never really goes away but CLEAN potty humour is funny too)
- Playing video games
- Stopping to touch and feel nature (picking up a stick, skipping rocks)
- Birthdays (kids require balloons, cake and parties! They insist for everyone’s birthday!)
- The Toy Store
- Children’s Movies! I’m catching up on all the kid movies finally (and can take my son to the theatre which is just a whole new world of fun!)
- Running. Playing tag, ball, chase. Adults don’t run without care much do we?
- Silly laughing. The smallest jokes/happenings are funny. We laugh a lot.
- Random Ice Cream cones
I know I am missing a lot of other things. What kid stuff do you enjoy again?
How about helping your little one open a new box of Crayolas!! And then coloring those big giant coloring books!!
I also love the Back to School feeling and sharing it with them 🙂
So true. I love picking out books at the library that I read when I was a kid and being able to share my love of a book with my son.
Phineas and Ferb! Woot Woot! 😉
Love this. Two of my favorites are napping (I love ‘V’s’ afternoon nap on the weekends) and skipping. We skip a lot around here.
Tickle-fests, as we call them around here! Just the raw glee of being tickled uncontrollably, and then little kiddie hands trying to tickle back. Why is it so fun? And why don’t we adults get together for tickle-fests? Imagine a girls’ night, a neighbourhood BBQ, family reunions, where tickling each other was allowed and encouraged!?!? Ha!
I totally agree with running! I race through malls and at park with my little one, laughing like a 6yo.
Doing the same things over again (like visiting a museum every day for a month) because it’s fun. Adults are expected to move on to something new and different after a while.
Oh my gosh; agreed with the examples in the post and also in the comments! I can’t believe the sense-memory that comes rushing back when I smell a can of Play-Doh!
Running around for no other reason than to chase and get caught, collapsing in a giggling laughing heap… and the GLEE our little guy gets out of being startled when we hide and then jump out with a “boo!” during a game of “catch me!”
The library was mentioned; that’s a great one!
Discovering treats like ice-cream and cake… or fizzy drinks! He had a sip of cranberry and soda water (no vodka, I swear!) and his eyes just lit up and he smacked his mouth funny. When the glass came back to him, he wanted to dip his tongue in instead of having a normal drink. “UMMY!” he said.
So so many… isn’t it wonderful?
I like family board game night a lot. Such a cozy relaxing time to be together. Even better by candlelight 🙂
What a great list, and so true. I loved re-discovering skipping, hopscotch, and that plastic lemon on a cord toy that you loop around your foot and jump over (what IS that called anyway?!?)
Also, now that my kids are older, kiddie lit. I love reading their books !
I’ve got to admit it’s rather a novelty to come across a somewhat original blog like this, great work. I expect I’ll be dropping by again soon. BTW I’ll be looking out for your next comment then.
