So. December 18th. Really? That’s what the calendar says? Because in my mind it’s what? December 6?
I’m prepared for Christmas, I really am. Short of wrapping, I’m up to date on most things and we have already started to entertain this weekend. It continues throughout the week. It’s all fun, late nights and baked goods from here on out I think.
The kids have loved the #25daysofChristmas advent calendar. I love it because they don’t ask how many days until Christmas each day, my 5 year old just counts the cards. They are super excited about it each day. Some days involve crafts, some chocolate, some fun and some giving. The ‘donate some toys’ day was confusing this year and he questioned how that possibly could be an advent activity, but it was, and an important conversation was had.
He did, however, love donating to Toy Mountain. Maybe because he can see it, shopped for it with me and drop it off himself? He remembers doing this each year and acknowledges how good it feels to make someone else happy.
One of our favourite days was pj Christmas party day where we watched shows, ate baking and played Christmas pictionary and freeze dance to Christmas carols.
Writing letters to Santa remains one of their favourite activities. I was excited to have my list of fun activities featured in a Canadian Parents blog too!
Gingy, our Elf on the Shelf, has been doing some pretty fun things like swinging on a rope and finding great hiding places. Despite the fact that I forgot to move him one night (and Andy remembered, leaving me panicked when I woke at 1 am to move him and couldn’t find him. ha!) we are having a lot of fun with the new tradition. Check out my Facebook page for the odd picture and update about Gingy.
Thanks to everyone who entered one of the amazing holiday giveaways I had a chance to do on the blog recently. There’s been some really great businesses I’ve had a chance to work with and check out so that’s been very exciting!
In this upcoming week I have easy activities to do with the kids to keep them a little distracted until the holidays, or to do when they are on break. I hope you enjoy them like we have!
In the meantime, I am kicking off family fun week with this hilarious video featuring the most bizarre creature on TV Pingu. Why do the kids love him so much? If I questioned it before, this music video makes me love him. It’s awesome and will buy you a few minutes of happiness. Enjoy!
