What a stunning show.
I was so lucky to have media tickets to the premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s new show Toruk last night. We made it a date night Andy and I – with a bite to eat and drinks ahead of time – so it was really a wonderful mid-week treat.
But back to the show, because frankly, while the company was quite nice, the show was a masterful performance of visual effects, music and story telling.
This was my first Cirque du Soleil show ever, despite many people in my life who have gone to performances and had nothing but rave reviews. The way they encompass the arena (a space where the audience usually watches hockey or concerts) was so well done. The scene changes, the movement – if you go to the show pay close attention to how the performers move from spot to spot. There’s no walking, it’s almost like watching gazelles gently fill in a space. There is so much elegance it was hard not to be struck by it.
The pacing was excellent and both Andy and I agreed that the kids would have been enthralled.
Cirque du Soleil: Toruk is only in Ottawa until July 3 and tickets are still available. This would be a wonderful way to kick off your summer or spend the long weekend.
Disclosure: While tickets were provided, all opinions are my own.
