For the Easter weekend, we went to my mother-in-law’s place in Windsor. She lives on a very very large property. Bit of Momsense advertiser and friend Tag Along Toys offered a couple of outdoor play things to try out while in the wide open country.
The kids were excited to be armed with a kite (we’ve never actually flown a kite with them before!) and a rocket launcher (sure, it was foam, but the kids didn’t care!)
All we needed was nice weather, and that we got day after day. There was a beautiful breeze (and strong winds some days) over the course of our stay. It was lovely.
The kite is made of tarp-like material – lightweight, but strong. It flew like a dream!
Now, do you remember the last time you flew a kite? It was years ago for me. I had to have been a kid. I remember trying to fly inexpensive plastic kites with strings that would break, or trying to make my own out of hanger and garbage bags.
There was something so peaceful about flying the kite and watching it rise higher and higher while the kids danced under it’s shadow.
And then, of course, we hit a tree.
Luckily, these kites are tough! We got it out of the tree (it wouldn’t be the last time that happened for the record) and were happy to see the kite still in functioning form – no tearing, no problems.
Over the course of the weekend I would hear ‘let’s go fly the kite!’ many times. And we did. It was good, old fashioned, outdoor fun.
The other cool toy we got to try was this rocket launcher. The Jump Rocket claims to shoot a foam rocket into the air from the launch pad.
Set up was easy. There are three rockets included. This is important because sometimes, rockets disappear or get stuck somewhere. It wouldn’t be much fun having no rockets for the launcher!
The kids had trouble shooting it in the air themselves (they ranged from ages 3-8) – they couldn’t seem to get enough force to launch it. But the adults could and we shot it into the air. And wow, did it ever go high!
Unfortunately, after 8 launches, the tubing between the launch pad and the jumper became loose, so not enough air was able to keep going. I did let Tag Along Toys know this and it’s likely fluke. Patti informed that this is one of their best sellers in the many years she’s carried it only 2 have been returned.
Thank you Tag Along Toys for the chance to play with these fun toys. The kite was definitely a huge hit!
Being outdoors is amazing and sometimes a few fun new items get us feeling like kids again.
When was the last time you flew a kite?
