Over the March break we headed to the Museum of Civilization for some awesome fun. The Children’s Museum is a favourite for our kids, and I enjoy taking them.
For the first time, we went to an IMAX movie. It was in 3D, which was their first experience with it as well, but the length of the movie was perfect for my 4 and 6 year old. The movie was Flight of the Butterflies, and given that my son had spent a few months earlier in the year learning about Monarchs, the tie in was perfect. (See what I did there? I snuck in learning while on March Break!)
I loved how the kids (all kids in the theatre for that matter) would reach out and try to touch the butterflies. The documentary was so well done. It was a stunning visual display and we really did learn some cool things. The kids keep asking to go see another.
It made us care too. A week after seeing the documentary, this CBC article about the endangerment of Monarch butterfly migration was troubling. Their travel is being affected by crops, pesticides, environment and eco-tourism.
IMAX at the Museum of Civilization has a few different movies to choose from at any given time. Visit the website for details on the schedule and what movies are available.
*disclosure: IMAX is a blog advertiser, however, I took the kids because it looked awesome and paid for it myself. I am writing this in part because of my advertiser relationship, but primarily because we really really enjoyed going!! 😉
