This post is part of Capital Mom’s Monday Moments – each week there is a different topic. This week, the topic is Water.
Last summer, at the Superstore I purchased a sprinkler for $5.99. It had the look of a fire hydrant and it’s red cap was supposed to spin around very fast spraying water everywhere.
In our fenced in back yard with mostly a garden and patio stone, there wasn’t much for the kids to play with. A sand box, gardening tools, chalk and frisbee kept us busy but eventually I knew they would start to out grow the space. The sprinkler was an attempt to delay that.
After hooking up the sprinkler to the hose and getting the kids dressed in their swim suits, we were ready for some water fun. I turned on the hose and instantly, the inexpensive sprinkler shot water out of the bottom, the plastic burst at the pressure of the water. The cap wouldn’t stay on and water wasn’t doing what it should.
However, instead of being dismayed, I realized that the holes in the bottom of the sprinkler set off the perfect streams for the kids. They didn’t seem to mind it wasn’t doing exactly as it should. The water flowed.
And since last year, that sprinkler has been keeping us cool on some of the hottest days, and the requests to set it up start coming at the first sign of sun and lack of snow in April.
It cost $5.99 but we have gotten far more value from our broken little sprinkler.
