With Easter around the corner, it’s a good excuse for me to buy extra chocolate, and when it goes on sale after Easter, that’s even better!
However, there are more ways to satisfy my need craving at Easter beyond the traditional Cream Eggs, Kisses or solid chocolate bunnies. Ottawa is home to some great little chocolate shops where the chocolate truffles and goodies are made on-site.
If you’ve been to the Market, you’ve likely at least seen the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Lots to choose from, and I suspect tourists enjoy this a lot!
I saw on CTV Ottawa News at Noon one day an interview with the owner and creator of Koko Chocolates located near Hintonburg/Island Park. Her creations involving thai chili peppers or lime and tequila infused chocolates sounded unique and delicious. This is on my list of ‘must order’ as there is no store front.
I also know about Truffle Treasures, located in Westboro and the Glebe. I’ve seen many articles about how good the truffles in particular are, plus, the Ottawa Citizen recently listed them as having one of the best places in Ottawa to have hot chocolate!
However, since I don’t always make it to the Market, and rarely visit Westboro or the West End (I know, I know, I’m missing out on some great shopping!) I wanted to find something closer to me, in Orleans. I was thrilled to find Sue at Crazy 4 Chocolate. Near Valentine’s Day when I was very pregnant (due the day after) and wasn’t getting out much, I ordered some of these treats for the Man as a surprise. Our chocolate desires were fulfilled with velvety truffles that tasted heavenly and I was happy to support a local businesswoman.
NOTE: I see now on the Crazy 4 Chocolate website that she now has fair-trade, ORGANIC truffles!
She had some great treats for Easter, but I’ve missed the boat and they’ve already sold out, but check out her other truffles – the hard part is choosing which kind to order.
Know of a local shop that makes their own chocolate? I’d love to know!
