I’ve written about board games before. And card games. UNO remains one of this family’s favourite games to play. When we head to the cottage in PEI each year, board games are a preferred activity to pass the time.
As the kids get older, board games get easier to play, and those that we played in our childhood are reintroduced.
Some games are classics. Growing up, when we became teenagers, the go-to game each holiday was Trivial Pursuit. We would always become a little over-competitive but loved it. I also remember playing a lot of Euchre, another favourite card game. And Cribbage. I think my 7 year old is almost ready to learn that which I would love!
Remember Yahtzee? My son got that for Christmas and we’ve been playing it a lot. The game suggests 8+, but my 5 and 7 year old have had few problems with a little assistance. The first few times we played we helped them with strategy but now they seem to really get it! It’s been a lot of fun reconnecting to a game that I loved as a kid.
These family games mean that we spend extra time together playing and having fun. There’s some quaint about sitting around with a game and really getting involved. Not to mention this winter has been long and cold so we’ve been in need of a few extra indoor games!
What are some of your favourite family board games?
We also LOVE board games. Most nights before bed we play a game. Chess is a big favourite with my youngest. Uno, of course! Tipover and Monoply are current favourites. My oldest just got Clue for his birthday. I cant wait to play it!
I’ve been wondering about Yahtzee, it was always one of my favourites, and Scattergories.
