We are all looking at the calendar and counting down the days until school is out. Whether it’s with excitement or panic, that June date seems to be coming up quicker than any of us expect. We’re lining up summer vacations, activities, camps, child care and outings too.
But let’s set aside the busy social calendar that our children keep and look at our own.
What are you doing this summer for you? How will you take time to get those creative vibes flowing? I personally like to write (fiction) as a creative outlet, but anytime I can do something artistic with my hands, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. Even if the results aren’t gallery worthy, shall we say, there is still something wonderful about spending time off-screen, out of the home and creating.
If you want to make time for yourself to paint or sculpt and find your own inner artist, the Nepean Visual Arts Centre have adult workshops happening all summer long.
Want to paint?
With instructional classes for oil and acrylic paints (you don’t have to have painted before to take this one!) or even un-instructed classes where you can bring your own ideas and give it a try, there are classes available in the mornings, afternoons or evenings (if you want to skip out on the kids’ bedtime!) that you can enjoy.
Want to try pottery?
Check out a hand building classes, or a wheel class at the Nepean Visual Arts Centre. There is an instructor mentoring class that will help guide you through your project, or times where you can go to an non-instruction class and use the space, however, participation in a previous NVAC pottery class is required to register for that one.
No matter what you decide to do, try to make time for your own creative pursuits this summer. We will all be busy with work, camp drop off and pick up, vacations planning and all the activities our kids will be involved in. Finding time for our own adventures is extremely important.
