As summer was winding down, and the feeling of anxiousness began to loom again before we stepped into a new school year, I was still feeling pretty fabulous about the summertime weather, outdoor activities, double vaccinations running through this family’s veins and the feeling that there was some normalcy in our day to day routines.
One thing that I have truly missed have been mini adventures, especially when it comes to this blog. So when my friend, and travel writer extraordinaire, Vanessa Chiasson, invited me to be her plus one at a sneak peek for the new Owls Rendez-Vous at the Canadian Museum of Nature, it was an easy yes.
I have avoided so many places with other people in the past 18 months, but stepping into the Museum felt like a homecoming of sorts. As I saw little ones exploring the dinosaur area, and cheering gleefully at the live owls and eagle of the exhibit, I was reminded of my many visits with my own children at many different ages.
Visiting the new Exhibit
Owls: Rendez-Vous is a mutli-year, all season addition, and is outside (masks currently still required); it was nice having a Museum space that was outdoors. There are a five owl friends hanging out in their special habitats and an eagle, a fellow predator like the owl, along with information about their species, care, habitats in the wild, where you can find them and more. It felt like one-part very neat science class, and one-part wildlife lesson.
Kids will love the sounds and movements the birds of prey offer. Be prepared for questions but you’ll discover a lot of answers on the accompanying info sections of the exhibit.
The exhibit is in partnership with Little Ray’s Reptiles.
What to know before you go to the Canadian Museum of Nature:
Timed tickets, purchased in advance, are required. The Museum is still following capacity reductions. Don’t forget your masks (which are worn even outside at the exhibit). Your Museum admission, for all other regular sections, include your special Owl exhibit.
Kids of all ages will love visiting the owls. I sent my own kids a video while I was there and they were beyond jealous. It’s a fun, family outing.
