Today is a no-school day for some school boards in Ottawa, plus it’s the long weekend of Thanksgiving. Not sure what to do with the kids and family on this extra long weekend? No worries. I have a few ideas that I’ve rounded up below!
The kids had a blast at Saunders Farm when we went last year! Their Halloween activities are all set up and running, and if you have a nice weather day when you go, the jumping pillows are a huge hit. Tip: Buy your tickets in advance online – the Farm gets pretty full this time of year!
2- Bob the Builder Exhibit and hands on crafting – Children’s Museum
Can we fix it? (you know you just sang the answer.) The Museum of History, Children’s Museum has a Bob the Builder Exhibition happening and it includes a special building and construction activity time. PLUS this weekend, meet Bob himself! Check the website for various days and times!
The annual Carleton Butterfly Show is back, and if you haven’t been before (I went with my son on a class field trip) it’s worth the visit. Although it can get crowded at times, the kids loved walking through the greenhouse spotting so many different kinds of butterflies. Admission is free, although parking may not be.
4- Haunted Historic Village at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum
This is for the older kids! On Friday and Saturday night, get spooked at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum!
5- Canada Agriculture and Food Museum
Thanksgiving on the Farm might be a great way to tie in all the food on our tables this weekend. The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum have full days of activities planned with hands on fun, plus visit the demonstration kitchen for tips on what to do with all those leftovers!
6- Visit Wakefield and Chelsea
The Gatineau Hills are full of colour this time of year, and we often make our way to Wakefield and Chelsea (as I’ve written about before). Grab a bite at the Wakefield Bakery and eat near the water, then drive to Chelsea for a walk in Gatineau Park and a trip to La Cigale ice cream shop (where you can sometimes grab a pie too!).
7- Pumpkin Inferno at Upper Canada Village
Pumpkin Inferno is back! This is a hugely popular event that admittedly I haven’t been to yet! Maybe this will finally be the year? Thousands of pumpkins carved and lit up are on display which will get everyone in the spirit of Halloween!
Know of a great event happening this weekend? Share it in the comments for others to consider!
